Roller hounds!

So this really happened and I need to talk about it......

I have been wanting this to happen forever. And others may have had to get their sea legs.....
or their modern day wuss-walkers (we never had these as kids!)
 but it finally happened!
And we milked it for all the ridiculous laughs we could........

It was so amazing..... I did not stop smiling one time! I would be rollin around the rink alone at times and realize that I was grinning ear to ear. I can't recommend anything more if you've found yourself in a pickle jar, lately. Just find one and do it!
It's a real bonding experience. Especially when you have to hang onto someone
lest you fall ;)
And you can pretend you're in Blades of Glory!

And you can laugh at your children when they fall.
After you make sure they aren't hurt, of course.
And you can be a real coach and pull that wuss off the wall......
And then you can be a real hero when you help that wuss off the ground.....
Lovin me some sea legs, Coley ;)
Buddy forever!
My birthday's around the corner and this is where I wanna be :)

  1. Wow I haven't roller skated in decades. There was a rink within walking distance of the apartment complex where I grew up and I went pretty regularly, even had my own skates. It's kinda odd the specific details I can recall about the place so long ago.

    1. It's been 20 years for me, too! And just like you, I can still see the old rink like I was just there. It's such a stimulating place to the senses, it just sticks. I couldn't stop smilin the whole time and I can't wait to go back :)

    1. I know, they are stoooopid! I seriously, honest to God thought that there were dozens of disabled children on walkers when we got there and was thinkin how cool that they were rockin it.... but then I realized aint nothin wrong with these kids! They are just bein a wuss! They need to get out there and get rink burn on their knees and bruised shins like we did (this is our version of "we used to walk a mile in the snow....") My favorite was the limbo! But I was too chicken to play the games. Whah whah :( Maybe next time when I'm not 20 years rusty. I would love to go skating with you, Rae!

  5. Wow! Seeing that brings back a lot of memories! The last time I was on skates was probably in the 90s....a bunch of us were feeling nostalgic and decided to go skating one night.

    1. I'm amazed that this one is still goin strong. A lot of my friends who were raised here had their birthdays there and frequented it as a kid. They all say it's not changed a bit since then. We'll definitely be takin the kids more and havin some date nights there :)

  6. That roller rink looks like so much fun. It has been ages since I slid into some roller skates. I probably would be the person using the walker though. lol It looks like you all had so much fun though! I enjoyed looking at these pictures! My husband has that same Shelby shirt. I hope that the rest of the week is wonderful for you Laura!

  7. Oh my goodness this brings me right back to the 8tj grade! We went to a birthday party and I skated for the first time and I FINALLY just sort of learned how you were supposed to kind of duck-walk and ski at the same time... and then it was time to go. Haven't been again since.

The two pictures of you and hubby holding hands and skating together just make the two of you look so alive and in love... like 10 years have just dropped away and the two of you haven't got a care in the world. Beautiful pics you guys. I am so happy seeing you so happy together!!!

    1. Geek, I just feel like you're our greatest supporter! And you spotted right, it actually felt like ten years dropped away out there on the rink. We were like two kids minus the old skate skills, of course. We were havin some genuine, uninhibited FUN. Did you notice there are practically no photos of the kids? HA HA! Realized that when I uploaded ;) .... Every big "kid" there that night really truly needed it..... It was exactly what the doctor ordered.
And I am sorta sad about your sliver of skate history. In an alternate universe somewhere, Jerome and I go skating with you and Jen every Wednesday night for "Cheapskate Couples" night..... and "She blinded me with science" plays at least twice an hour.....

    2. That and "Rock Me Amadeus". Oh And I'd bring my own mix and MAKE them play "Dance Magic" can you imagine skating to that?

    3. We dance to that a lot, so skating may not be so hard to imagine ;)
I am really likin this imagined scenario...... I'm so jealous of our alternate universe selves!

  8. Dude, that place looks awesome! I love the rainbow color scheme. :D

This post really took me back. When I was a kid I went to the Classic Skating all the time! My brother and I had our own pair of cool roller blades and we'd haul butt around that rink! They also had tons of cool arcade machines, like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and The Simpsons arcade. Whenever they played a "slow skate" song we'd skate on over to the arcades and pop in some quarters. Then we'd head over to the snack bar and order snow cones with tiger's blood syrup. Ah yeah, good times!

    1. The BEST part about this post is hearing everyone's skating rink memories. I didn't even ask!
Now that is true nostalgia ;)
