Well, you can't take it with you.....

Lately we've been pretty much broke. In the last couple of years, it has become way less taboo to admit somethin like that. Seems like lots of folks are goin through the same financial stuff all across the board.
I got friends who are sellin homes so they can have a little spending room. Ironically, we're sellin all kinds of stuff to make livin in our home top priority. I say havin your own house is better than eatin well ;)
There's NO way we'll ever lose our home. The mortgage comes straight out of the account and everything else is secondary. That's the way it will always be.
Sometimes you make sacrifices to make it all flow. I've parted with some stuff this week all in the name of breakfast, lunch and dinner.
This is a really weird blog topic, I get that. But I kinda miss some of my stuff. And this will help with closure ;)
I'll never have a creepy/happy daisy antique painting again....
The world's raddest vintage boots were too small anyway, but it still stings.......

Ava said goodbye to "Elliany" .........

and little rocky.......
And the toughest of all was sayin goodbye to old Mickey and Minnie. I put on a brave face......
 But Mickey......
Well, he just broke down.

Ok. Now that I blogged this out, I feel funny about it. Mickey's emotional weakness made me smile :)
And guess what? The lady who came to pick him up just so happens to have a little girl in Sarah's class.
And that little girl has already been tellin tales of "her friend, Sarah" since school started.
What a cool gift. A silver lining.

  1. Life is tough with many hard choices to make but things always get better and someday you may have those things back again Laura or even better ones.

Not always rosey at my house either and money is tight too at times but we manage and push on because me and my wife know that there is sunlight at the end of the tunnel on those dark days.

    1. John, you're so great! Goodness, this is a pretty great little corner of the blogging community I've connected with. :)
And you're right, it's not always rosey, is it? But life keeps goin and we have SO much to be thankful for every single day. It really trumps the rough patches, for sure.
Thanks, John :) Just keepin it real, aren't we?

  2. I wish I had something inspirational to say other than: Hang in there. You hang in there. You're doing right by your family. You're doing right by those beautiful kids. This blog, and all this other stuff... use it to cope. But never doubt you're doing right. These are all just things. The connections you make with your kids and husband, the example you set for them... it's all perfect.

You used this post to remind yourself of that. So please, you hang in there.

    1. Ziggy would totally say "Hang in there". So you've spoken well, friend.... I love what you said, it's 100% all about the family :) You have a strong belief in this truth from what I've seen, that's better than any "treasure" you've ever found.
I say it all the time in this space, family is the real treasure.
And friends, too. Even stranger LGB lovin' friends you've never met ;)

Thanks for your perfect comment. And thanks for making me think of Ziggy. Always makes me smile!

  3. I feel you, sista!
I haven't had a permanent job in a couple years and the times when I'm not even doing contract/temp work are tough, but we get by. It's easy for people to say "at least you have your health" and sure enough I do, but that don't pay the bills.

Here's a lil tip: after you write a post, if you feel weird posting it, you don't have to. Sometimes just getting it out of your system can make you feel better.

    1. I love to be called sistah! It's like a high five.
And thanks for the tip, Dex. I have several posts sittin in my blogger post list, that will never see the light of computer screen ;) But sometimes, all the power of release comes in hitting "Publish". Transparency!

    2. I love that you went through with it and hit publish on this one. The truth can be hard. Hell it sometimes makes for crap blogging! But it's always refreshing to me.

  4. Hmmm. This is a tough one sis, but I am reminded of Romans 8. If its worth anything, you still have the coolest house of all the "magnolias!" For real;)
And oh yeah... I'm proud of ya buddy. You're a good friend to look up to. Ciao

I am proud of you, too, even though you're a kidnapper.

  5. I'm glad for the laugh with that Mickey and Minnie scene! : ) You're definitely not in this alone. A lot more people than we realize are in the "let's find more room to breathe after we pay those bills" boat. A lot of people just can't bring themselves to admit it - even to themselves. There are going to be up times and down times but I can tell that you've seriously got your head and heart straight so I know that you and your awesome family - and beautiful home - will be okay.

I wish that I could have fostered Elliany for Ava. I think he and I would have liked each other.

    1. Aint that the truth, Eartha! And thank you, words from you are always so genuine and not taken lightly.
I wish you could have had Elliany, too. He would have been beautiful in your home, which I just saw on Thrift Core! Freakin, NO WAY!! Your house is SO perfect. And I can't believe that those idiots from that show did not shoot scenes there! (Can't remember the show, it was a while back, but I certainly remember your harried tale of cleaning all night)

  6. Oh Laura, you are one tough woman. Your family is lucky to have you as you are them. I know this isn't easy, and I am glad you talk about it, because you are right, a great deal of people are dealing with similar financial struggles. I only hope that there will come a moment in time when these experiences can just be memories that have only made us super She-Ra strong. You are amazing. : )

  7. I feel your pain! Every now and again we have to have a garage sale in order to bring in some cash monies and just to clear out the clutter.

A while back I sold my Battle Damaged Goku on eBay and made $50. I was happy to make the money, but then I was sad that I had to let Goku go. It okay though, Goku will enjoy his new home. I blame Toy Story for making me feel guilty about getting rid of and/or selling my old toys.

Of course, when it really comes down to it I'd sell every last treasure I own from A-Team to Z-bots if I had to for my family.

    1. Hi, Mason :) Thanks for stoppin by! I really connect with what you said in the last line.... you sound like good people.
And I blame my granny for teaching me how to hoard for my clutch on the inanimate ;) I saw you have Playmobil figures!! Me, too :)

    2. Sure thing, your blog is a treat to read!

I can totally relate, my Mom spoiled us kids rotten with toys. Even though we were considered "poor kids" we sure had a whole crap load of toys! Every toy I still have from childhood that I didn't lose or destroy I cling to like crazy! It would take a lot to have to let go of a childhood toy. Goku was cool, but I bought him much later in life, so he didn't mean as much to me.

I totally grew up on LEGO and when I was younger I thought Playmobil toys were for babys. Now that I'm older and wiser I can see that Playmobil is totally legit. I've started a small collection of Playmobil figures and always keep my eye open for them. I respect Playmobil because they're not afraid to be religious or edgy. Not many toy companies would dare make a Nativity play set or an Executioner figure. Gotta love Playmobil!

  8. I totally understand...these are tough times we live in. Many of my friends are unemployed or working at crappy jobs that they are overqualified for, just so they can bring home a paycheck. I now find myself going to Goodwill just looking for stuff (especially stuff that is under priced) to resell for more money...sounds greedy, but I really need the cash sometimes!

    1. Oh my gosh... Suzy, you're not alone. I've sold a couple of things I got just for that purpose... I felt dirty after, lol! But like you said, we needed the cash! It may be something I need to get used to or it just may not be my bag ;)
